Security executives are confronting a fresh surge of identity threats
A recent study has shown that the increasing complexity of technology and organizations is leading to the emergence of new identity risks that need to be managed by security leaders. Conducted by ConductorOne, the study surveyed over 500 IT security leaders in the US and found that rising complexity is giving rise to new identity risks.
In terms of technology complexity, the report revealed that hybrid IT environments are prevalent. 76% of respondents reported that their company operates in a hybrid IT environment, with 18% having an on-premises IT environment and only 6% having a completely cloud-based environment.
Moreover, almost all respondents (97%) mentioned that their organization collaborates with external entities, such as partners, contractors, or suppliers, who all have varying degrees of access to their systems, applications, or resources.
Respondents were asked about their main challenges with identity and access management, and the top issues identified in the report include:
- Complexity of existing systems (47%)
- Employee and executive resistance to change (38% and 32% respectively)
- Lack of suitable tools (33%)
- Current identity security strategy/access policy of the organization (47%)
Additionally, 47% of respondents noted that their organization’s existing identity security strategy and access policy hinders team productivity, with 23% considering the hindrance to be significant.
