A recent threat brief by SonicWall analyzed healthcare security, revealing that at least 14 million patients in the U.S. have been impacted by malware breaches in this sector.

Many healthcare organizations operate with limited cybersecurity resources and use outdated technology, making them vulnerable to ransomware attacks. The report also found that 60% of vulnerabilities targeted Microsoft Exchange.

In 2024, ransomware was involved in 91% of malware-related data breaches in healthcare, with Lockbit being one of the most prominent ransomware groups targeting the industry.
