Detecting Vulnerabilities Proves to be More Challenging for 58% of Organizations
In a recent survey by Synack, the scalability of penetration testing was analyzed. According to half of the respondents, managing their attack surface has become more challenging compared to a year ago due to factors like third-party risk, data complexity, and increasing attacker sophistication.
Findings showed that 58% of enterprises are facing difficulties in detecting vulnerabilities as their attack surface grows in complexity, size, and rate of change. Currently, pentesting covers only 47% of business-critical applications for most organizations.
About 60% of respondents expressed challenges in testing frequently enough to keep up with the pace of application development, leading three in four to consider platform-based testing solutions like Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS).
When it comes to using pentesting, 32% of respondents indicated that it is used to enhance overall security strategies and posture. The majority either use pentesting for compliance purposes or to achieve tactical goals such as identifying and addressing vulnerabilities.
