Data security has been incorporated into AI systems by 29% of organizations
Preparation for Artificial Intelligence (AI) was examined in a recent survey conducted by SHI International and Dell Technologies.
The study revealed that approximately half of research universities have a developed strategy for implementing and managing AI technologies. However, only 13.2% feel fully prepared to effectively leverage the capabilities of AI. In academia, AI is being utilized for various purposes, with chatbots (36.8%) and research tools (35.3%) being the most prominent use cases. The top five applications also include automation of administrative tasks, predictive analytics, and student services (all at 29.4%).
Results from the survey indicate that over 80% of participants believe that policies regarding AI implementation are not yet fully established, but 70% are currently utilizing or planning to implement AI within the next year. Other significant findings include:
- 48.6% have either initiated basic training or have plans to train their staff.
- Institutions require the most support in developing strategies for AI funding (47.1%) and identifying available grants (44.1%).
- The primary obstacles to AI implementation are competing priorities (36.8%), inadequate funding (36.8%), and a lack of AI strategy or ownership (30.9%).
- 16% believe that their infrastructure is prepared for extensive integration of AI for students.
- 29.4% have only partially or somewhat implemented data security and privacy measures in their AI systems.
