Bots accounted for 36% of global internet traffic

A recent report by Fastly analyzed cybersecurity threats and revealed that 91% of cyberattacks – an increase from 69% in 2023 – targeted multiple customers through mass scanning techniques to exploit software vulnerabilities.

The report also found that 91% of attacks from NLX sources targeted multiple customers, with 19% targeting over 100 different customers. This marks a significant rise from Q2 2023, where 69% of NLX sources targeted multiple customers.

Approximately 36% of global internet traffic is attributed to requests from automation tools, with 36% from bots and 64% from human users.

The high tech industry remains the top target, accounting for 37% of attacks in 2024 (a slight decrease from 46% last year), followed by media & entertainment (21%) and financial services (17%).
