New data from CyberSeek reveals that the cybersecurity industry is currently facing a shortage of approximately 225,200 security professionals needed to fill the talent gap. Only 85% of available cybersecurity jobs in the economy are currently filled, leaving over 1.2 million workers employed in the sector.
The data from CyberSeek also highlights the impact of the decrease in tech hiring during 2023 on cybersecurity jobs. Job postings for tech occupations dropped by 37% from May 2023 to April 2024. Additionally, cyber job postings decreased by 29%, indicating that the cybersecurity industry was somewhat less affected by the hiring downturn compared to the overall IT sector.
Cybersecurity job postings totaled 469,930 between May 2023 and April 2024. The most in-demand positions included:
