73% of security professionals neglected to respond to security alerts

A recent report by Coro highlights the challenges faced by cybersecurity professionals when it comes to their workload. The survey included 500 cybersecurity decision-makers from companies with 200 to 2000 employees in the United States, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which lacked resources and capabilities to manage the high volume of security alerts effectively.

According to the report, 73% of SME security professionals admitted to missing, ignoring, or not acting upon high priority security alerts due to reasons like understaffing and time constraints. Monitoring security platforms was identified as the most time-consuming task, with 52% of respondents spending the majority of their time on it, followed by vulnerability patching.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Security professionals spend an average of 4 hours and 43 minutes daily managing the organization’s cybersecurity tools, with an average of 11.55 tools in use.
  • It takes approximately 4.223 months for new cybersecurity tools to become fully operational due to installation, configuration, integration, and staff training.
  • 85% of professionals surveyed plan to consolidate their tools within the next 12 months to streamline operations.
