73% of security professionals did not respond to a security alert.
A report by Coro has surveyed 500 cybersecurity decision makers across small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United States, suggesting that security leaders are overwhelmed by the volume and complexity of security demands. The report found that SMEs are faced with a greater number of sophisticated cyberattacks yet lack the resources necessary for a proper defense. As a result, security professionals within these organizations are often expected to take on more than they can handle. The report found that 73% of security professionals in SMEs have ignored, missed, or otherwise failed to act upon high priority security incidents.
Key discoveries in the report include:
- Surveyed security professionals spend an average of 4 hours and 43 minutes each day managing the organization’s cybersecurity tools. They average 11.55 security tools in their toolbox.
- The task that consumes the most time is monitoring security platforms, according to 52% of the respondents. This task is followed by vulnerability patching.
- It takes around 4.22 months for a new cybersecurity tool to become fully operational, including time spent on installation, configuration, staff training, and integration with other systems.
