72% of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) fear that AI solutions could result in security vulnerabilities

A survey conducted by Metomic gathered insights from over 400 CISOs in the United States and United Kingdom to understand their challenges, priorities, and initiatives related to data security. The survey aimed to provide an overview of the current state of data security, covering various cybersecurity issues such as generative AI.

Among CISOs in the U.S. and U.K., data breaches are identified as the most significant security concern. Artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies are also highlighted as major concerns in the U.S., while phishing and compromised accounts are top concerns in the U.K. CISOs express apprehension about deploying generative AI within their organizations, citing security breaches as a primary concern. However, the majority of CISOs plan to implement AI-driven tools to counter emerging AI threats.

Noteworthy findings from the report include:

  • 41% of U.S. CISOs and 34% of U.K. CISOs consider establishing and maintaining a strong organizational culture and awareness around security as a top challenge.
  • 93% of respondents are confident in employees’ awareness of managing sensitive or confidential data.
  • 80% believe that their organizations provide an adequate number of security training programs for employees.
