44% of U.S. Companies Affected by Ransomware

A recent report by GetApp analyzed the top cyber threat concerns.

The report indicates that 37% of U.S. IT professionals are most worried about AI-enhanced attacks in 2025, with AI-enhanced malware being identified as the top AI-generated threat by 60% of global IT professionals. While phishing and ransomware attacks continue to be common, the increasing complexity of AI-augmented threats highlights the need for businesses to focus on new defensive strategies.

In 2024, ransomware attacks impacted 44% of U.S. companies, with 43% of them paying a ransom. However, 36% of businesses managed to retrieve their data without paying, suggesting improvements in incident response and decryption capabilities.

Phishing remains a significant issue for businesses, with 87% of U.S. organizations reporting phishing attempts in the past year. Shockingly, 74% of employees who received a phishing email clicked on malicious links, emphasizing the ongoing necessity for security awareness training.

As more businesses embrace cloud solutions, 56% of data breaches in the U.S. were attributed to software vulnerabilities, underscoring the importance of securing cloud-based infrastructure.

The U.S. performed better than the global average in terms of data breaches, with 54% of businesses reporting incidents in 2024 compared to the global average of 62%. Despite this, more than half of U.S. organizations still encountered breaches, highlighting the need for sustained vigilance.

More than half (51%) of U.S. companies have implemented MFA for all applications, surpassing the global average of 44%.
